At St. John the Evangelist Baptist Church,Â
We believe:
We believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God.
We believe the Holy Scriptures are divinely inspired, trustworthy, and the authoritative standard for Christian faith and practice. God's Word reveals His character, His plan of salvation, and His instructions for righteous living.
We are committed to preaching, teaching, studying, and living according to the Word of God.
We believe in one God, eternally existing as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
We believe God is holy, sovereign, loving, merciful, and just. He is the Creator and Sustainer of all things and is worthy of our worship, praise, obedience, and devotion.
We believe Jesus Christ is the Son of God and the only way to salvation.
We believe Jesus Christ is fully God and fully man, conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He lived without sin, died on the cross for our sins, rose bodily from the grave on the third day, ascended into heaven, and will return again.
Through His death and resurrection, we have forgiveness, redemption, and the promise of eternal life.
We believe salvation is a gift from God, received through faith in Jesus Christ.
We believe all humanity has sinned and needs God's redeeming grace. Salvation cannot be earned through good works, religious activity, or human effort.
Through repentance toward God and faith in Jesus Christ, sinners are forgiven, regenerated, justified, and brought into a new relationship with God.
True saving faith produces a transformed life and a growing desire to follow Christ.
We believe the Holy Spirit empowers believers to live for Christ.
We believe the Holy Spirit convicts people of sin, draws them toward salvation, indwells believers, and equips the Church for ministry.
Through the Holy Spirit, believers are strengthened, guided into truth, given spiritual gifts, and developed in Christlike character.
We believe the Church is the body of Christ, called to worship, fellowship, discipleship, and service.
We believe the local church is a congregation of baptized believers, united by faith in Jesus Christ and committed to His teachings.
We believe Jesus Christ established two ordinances for His Church.
Baptism:
We believe in baptism by immersion for those who have personally professed faith in Jesus Christ. Baptism symbolizes our identification with His death, burial, and resurrection.
The Lord's Supper:
We believe the Lord's Supper is a sacred observance through which believers remember Christ's sacrifice, examine themselves, and proclaim His death until He returns.
Neither ordinance earns salvation; both are acts of obedience and testimony to the Gospel.
We believe every believer is called to become more like Jesus Christ.
We believe spiritual growth is a lifelong process of sanctification through which God transforms our attitudes, desires, character, and conduct.
As followers of Jesus Christ, we are called to study Scripture, practice obedience, demonstrate love, pursue holiness, and grow in spiritual maturity.
We believe discipleship is not simply about knowing more about Jesus, but becoming more like Him.
