Rev. Shelton R. Colbert

Reverend Colbert accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at the tender age of 8 years old; being taken to church by his paternal grandmother, Etta Mae Colbert and his maternal grandfather, Fred Johnson.  Reverend Colbert is thankful to God for both his prodigal son experience and his first-hand knowledge of the truth found in Proverbs 22:6.

Prior to being called to serve in this section of the vineyard, Reverend Colbert was licensed by Reverend Dr. Melvin G. Rippy at Deliverance Baptist Christian Center in Pittsburgh PA on June 14, 2009, and he was ordained by Pastor Alec K. Piper on June 22, 2014 at Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in Aliquippa, PA, where he served as an Assistant Pastor under the pastorate of Reverend Piper.  Reverend Colbert's primary responsibilities were with the youth and young adult ministries.  After relocating to Allegheny County, Reverend Colbert was an Associate at Morning Star Baptist Church in West Mifflin, PA under the pastorate of the late Reverend Cathryn Brundage where he worked diligently with the men’s ministry.

On April 17, 2019, Reverend Colbert was called to pastor St. John the Evangelist Baptist Church.  Reverend Colbert began the church’s Youth and Young Adult Sunday, encouraging families to bring and invite their families the last Sunday of each quarter.  Reverend Colbert is also diligently working on the beautification of the church-having the outside painted and new carpet installed on the stairs that lead into the church, and having renovations made to the fellowship hall in the downstairs of the church.  Reverend Colbert strongly believes in getting youth involved in church.  This past summer, Vacation Bible School was held at the Three Rivers Village School (the old Hazelwood YMCA), inviting as many youth from the community as possible.  The ending program of the VBS week was held across the street at Lewis Playground.  The children in attendance were able to enjoy the word of God while having fun and gaining a sense of pride in their community.  In all things, Reverend Colbert seeks the Lord, and follows the vision He has given him for the building of both the Kingdom and St. John the Evangelist Baptist Church.

Reverend Colbert has been married to his wife, Thera (pronounced Tera) for 6 years and they are parents to 4 children and 6 grandchildren.
